A Very, Very Bad Move-In Experience, Damage Claim Denied

I had a lousy encounter with University Moving & Storage (UMS) through an intrastate movement from west Michigan to northern Michigan at August 2018. The problems relate to furniture and condominium damages brought on by a bad move-in team for which UMS won’t compensate me.

I hired UMS for $4,356.59, which included a $715 fee for”additional maintenance coverage” to pay for damages at replacement cost around $65,000 with $0 deductible. I especially asked for and has been guaranteed experienced, professional movers in the ends of the transfer. Even though the move-out team in west Michigan was exceptional, the move-in team in north Michigan was neither professional nor seasoned.
    • Wardrobe boxes have been put upside down.
    • Crew members slipped off boxes off their backs, making them land hard in their own corners.
    • Heavy publication boxes were put on big, light weight boxes.
    • The team did not understand how to maneuver bits around 90 degree turns, ramming numerous pieces of furniture from oncoming corners or walls.
    • No care has been taken to place down furniture carefully on the driveway or within the condominium.
    • One broken bit of my entertainment centre was wrapped in a moving blanket and made between two piles of boxes.
    • Through the move-in, team members cried and swore at each other.
    • One team member refused to take breaks and wished to stop before the job has been completed.
    • Another team member staggered beneath the burden of boxes and furniture.
    • My condo has been made with marks and gouges on walls, ceilings and trim.
    • My newly cleaned carpets was soiled.

I relayed my dissatisfaction to the motorist through the Saturday move-in and also to my moving planner on Monday, the first business day later proceed –in.

I filed a written claim for all obligations inside the timeline that was allocated.

UMS reimbursed me to get just the cleanup of two soiled upholstered bits ($195) and a computer desk ($279.99) which was so badly damaged that the driver took it with him to eliminate. UMS will not pay any other furniture harm. Additionally, UMS won’t pay for ANY damage to walls, trim and carpeting.

The reason given for denial was that harms”weren’t mentioned on the inventories in the time of delivery”. BTW, both soiled upholstered pieces weren’t recorded on the stock sheets. Afterwards, UMS explained that a damage report signaled”preexisting damage to a number of the pieces.” I wasn’t allowed to realize that report. I totally refute that any of the harm claimed was pre-existing.

I reported my expertise into Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division (CVED) Regulatory & Credentialing Section of the Michigan State Police that manages intrastate moves. January 2019, CVED stated,”UMS was advised that the Motor Carrier Act 254, PA 178 of 2015 enables 3 weeks to get a shipper to create a claim. We asked that the promise be assessed in line with the regulations of the Motor Carrier Act.” It’s currently mid-April 2019 and UMS hasn’t responded to this petition despite CVED’s followup mails and telephone calls.

I’ve now filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Attorney General.

I interacted sensibly and patiently with UMS within the previous 9 months. I conveyed with UMS in a timely and professional way. I did my very best to follow processes. I filed my claim nicely inside UMS’s deadline. I asked questions. I kept things going ahead by occasionally checking in with UMS. I allowed considerable time for UMS to react prior to submitting complaints and testimonials to people forums.

I’m looking for the following: (1) replacement price of this busted Ethan Allen entertainment centre bit, (2) the expense to fix marks and scratches on furniture, (3) monetary consideration for devaluation of ruined furniture with heavy gouges, scratches and dents outside inconspicuous fix, (4) the cost to fix condominium wall and trimming damages, (5) the charge to clean carpets, and (6) payoff of the $150 price to get my treadmill attracted inside.

    DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

I moved cross country for a new job along with the relocation firm picked University Movers. University gave us a quote for packaging and loading time frames. Then changed it in the last moment. Packing ended up carrying a complete day longer than expected, leading to me and my loved ones sleeping on the ground of a half filled up home. The packers were late arriving every day. University delayed the shipping of our stuff into the new home and blamed that the relo company. My property came damaged. Boxes crushed. Furniture broken. China packed beneath small appliances. Components removed furniture/appliances and dropped. They even opened boxes of delicate things I packed and pulled books to the boxes, so damaging those products. Clothing was just thrown into apparel boxes, not wrapped up on streets. Replicas of liquid soap have been thrown into boxes in addition to food. I had been advised by University’s QA section”things occurred during a movement”. I’m now dealing with almost $10,000 in ruined land. Actual incompetence. Don’t Use UNIVERSITY MOVERS.

    Very Bad Experience!!!

I wish that I discovered this site and read the testimonials prior to employing this provider. If I could give zero stars I would! We packed all our belongings and place them in a storage device. The business came out into the unit to perform an inventory to provide us a quote. At no moment did the individual giving us the quote tell us there could be an issue since we packed ourselves. They proceeded to give us a quote which turned out to be wholly incorrect so that they billed us $1000 more. They also offered us insurance for every thing even the furniture which has been covered in blankets not telling us whether they cracked or chipped anything they would not be liable. After we unpacked we discovered our armoire doors from wack on account of this mover moving the bit on its own end. They maintained it wan’t level but since the picture I have attached reveals it had been. They also chipped up our bedroom furniture and dining room chairs. Obviously once we created the claim that they said sorry not insured since it might have been like that earlier. We attempted to go higher from the organization but like many others have stated the customer support is awful all the way towards the very best. I have moved several different times before and never had this kind of disreputable firm which would not stand behind the harms they did. Do yourself a favor and discover a better more fair business!

    Long-distance move from Germany
    International move disaster

We needed to use this business due to my husband’s occupation. They sub-subcontracted another firm to arrange the pickup of their proceeds in Germany. Through the test the guy supplied us with no particular directions, but we’ve packed everything ourselves already because we couldn’t have packaging paid for, also showed him the packaged boxes. He said nothing about that being an issue. I’d yet organized to pay individually for skilled packaging for 2 collections of fine crystal and china, 1 set being a classic. I knew that something was wrong for this business the day that the movers showed up (45 minutes late with no notice). To start with they said they had to start and inspect each box for batteries, though we’d not been told this earlier, and that I had at this stage I’d spent monthly packing nearly 40 boxes very attentively. Eventually after a lengthy debate I showed them all the 2 boxes with electronic equipment with batteries, but had to carefully unpack and repack them myself seeing how carelessly they managed things. Then they began to”package” my own china. I discovered plates banging together, and proceeded to explore and discovered them pilling my meals unwrapped to boxes, which wouldn’t have survived a global movement without breaking up. I had to shout at them to prevent and find the boss to return to my flat. I informed him I’d paid individually for expert china packaging, and wasn’t likely to take my dishes coming broken. He finally consented to really supply the support I’d paid for, but they might just show up a week after. I’d already left the nation now, although my husband was still there to oversee, I can only envision the tragedy this could have been had we needed to proceed instantly. I contacted University Transferring and informed them I had been uncomfortable expecting my life possessions with this business, and they did absolutely nothing, besides request our payment to your china packaging! Ultimately our possessions arrive 2 months later, along with also a half a dozen of those boxes have been opened from the moving business. It’s at least clear which boxes have been opened since they resealed them together with tape by using their company logo, however now I have to attempt and manage the truth my boxes have been illegally opened, and determine what’s been damaged or stolen. I’ve completed an global transfer of exactly the exact same scale before without one issue. The business billed less than half of what University inspector’s failed, didn’t open a single one of my boxes, also provided professional packaging china with no argument. This business only used subcontracts on either endings, but under no conditions if they are reliable.

    Dishonest and deplorable

We proceeded across the country and employed this organization. It had been among the biggest mistakes we have ever produced. The packers stole electronics, jewelry and memorabilia from boxes which were pre-packed and put aside. Not only did they slip nevertheless they REFUSE to admit it. The customer support is awful, all of the way from bottom to top. Please do not use this business!

    Horribe and Dishonest Company

I must have read these prior reviews before applying this business. Kelsey, the sales man made this a”three day” move. The very first day, 1 person would wrap a couple little glass tabletops and disassemble the beds. It was assumed to take 1/2 day. He shows up without the tools to your beds so only packs the 2 tabletops that takes approximately 20 minutes. However, I WAS billed for the complete half day.
The second and next day was that the real move. Several pieces of furniture came with little nicks. However, the killer for me was a 4 inch tear in my brand-new leather sofa. They’d put it onto a dolly and put it in. Why do they do this apart from just being dumb? You will find 5 movers plus they might have completed a delicate thing like which in. As soon as I registered a claim that they advised me that I hadn’t bought extra insurance so my compensation was $60! Another criticism was that they nicked my drywall in many areas (brand new house ) and I needed to decorate and patch.
I believe that this business is unethical, careless, and even threatening. Don’t rely on them if you take care of your house or possessions in any way!

    Poor from beginning to end

I’m another tremendously disappointed/displeased client of the business, which was set up in Ann Arbor with 2 girls when I first lived there. The business has seemingly improved far out of proportion and outside being viewed over.
The estimator needed to reschedule our appointment due to an error on his part. When he came, he had been drenched in a odor that smelled up my home for days, although it had been revealed. He overestimated the demand for apparel boxes, and I clearly pointed him out throughout the quote. The packers utilized the additional boxes to simply throw things into when packaging. The estimator also did not offer the scheduler all of the pertinent info, therefore there was a enormous misunderstanding regarding what was to take care of my possessions – moving to storage, maybe not being hauled before I discovered a home.
A choice was made to ship just two guys to package AND load to precisely the exact same moment. I’d done a ton of packaging myself, but there was enough left to do this two guys were definitely not sufficient to achieve the job. Not only was that the”direct” of this group extremely difficult to manage, but it had been the worst packaging job I have experienced. Matters were packaged inappropriately, which caused much breakage and damage of irreplaceable products. A step stool was totally missing. They drove off without my sofa, which was about the lower amount. Luckily I found it until they got too much off.
While the products have been in storage, then I made a deal on a home and believed I had a final date, therefore informed the scheduler. Due to a terrible review I couldn’t proceed with this buy, but discovered another home in short order and created a new final date. I had been told that since I’d altered the date that I would need to pay an extra $1000.00 bucks, even though I had a BINDING quote, that is contrary to regulations.
The shipping team were quite lovely and were, as I had been, appalled because we unpacked the clothing boxes, as well as items that have to happen to be in boxes and weren’t, therefore were ruined. But, rather than phoning me for instructions, the team determined that they couldn’t obtain the huge van into my home, leased a bigger truck and, therefore, had to manage my items twice.
There’s a currently a crevice on the side of a oak dresser which has thrown off the whole dresser, so that the drawers have been unusable. As soon as I attempted to submit a claim, the kind online site didn’t get the job done. I called and the girl I talked with emailed me another form. It, also, didn’t get the job done. I emailed her to let her understand and didn’t listen. Apparently the BBB won’t assist to any of the, therefore that is the only forum open to allow people know not to use this provider. It was great and won several awards, but I, personally, had the most awful experience together. I’m a experienced inspector, such as moving cross country and getting things in storage. I’ve not ever had such a poor experience.

    Disgusted

I transferred from January, 2013 in Michigan to Colorado. My items came damaged. 1 thing in particular was destroyed. This really is a Sligh leather high desk, a family room, my mum’s desk.   Upon coming at Denver, the driver promptly confessed They had lost the desk when moving trucks at Detroit.   I filed a claim and they sent out someone to fix the desk, despite the fact that it was apparant in the harm that it couldn’t be mended. The fix filed his report where he said that the harm was”because of atmospheric conditions”.   Two things wrong with that, the motorist had confessed diminishing the desk and harm of this size Couldn’t be due to”atmospheric conditions”.   I needed to go through a process of submitting photographs and eventually NA Van Lines consented that the desk was damaged in the movement.   They shipped the Identical man out to”fix” it.   He pasted and vised. It required four Satruday morning to allow them to slice back the desk together. Last week I transferred again, now only across the town. The guys whom I needed to allow me to only moved the desk an inch and it crumbled.   What exactly the repairman had done was let me two years to examine the desk, because I never actually moved it through this time, then watch it move to the ditch as a result of recklessness of University Transferring North American Van Lines. I wouldn’t ever use the NA back again. I’ve moved several occasions and just when I’ve utilized NA have I’d broken bits. Within my current transferred I have discovered other things which were damaged within this movement too.   Their carelessness continues to irritate me.

    Horrible Experience!

Lately (April-current afternoon 2014) utilized”University Moving & Storage” established from Farmington Hills, MI as our moving business. We had a dreadful experience when you take a look at the”big picture”. They forgot a few of the sofas and my own piano! On the afternoon of the movement they jumped the trucks and understood both sofas and my piano was left back at the warehouse (later we had to keep our things for 3 weeks ). The business brought our bits over the subsequent afternoon and another four hours of shipping ensued. There has been damage to our own walls trying to find some bigger peices to our residence. We also had many damaged things: television, armoire, vase, patio umbrella, plus they dropped our toolbox. It was not discovered. Our movement, though inside the country was quite costly because of needing storage. We did not buy additional insurance for transferring, we signed up a normal standard contract because many would. BE AWARE….if you’ve harm, signing a normal contract equates to the business just reimbursing you .50 pennies for every pound of weight in the item that is damaged.  This ends up to be 70 to substitute our TV! $90 to substitute an armoire which price us $900.00 we had been awarded $10.00 to purchase a new ladder that they dropped. It’s been a complete mess. However,….we signed up the small print and that’s our fault. But being completely disrespcted with their workers and client support isn’t our fault. I’ve been more than patient for this business. I was listened to by a few of the drivers who jumped to spit because he approached his front door and also flick out the ass of the cigarette as he awakened my route. (Not specialist behavior ). Sue Maiden of claims have been also very rude to us about the telephone once we’d questions concerning the promise. She basically told us she had been too busy to spell out the promise and that when she spent time describing every claim to every client that she’d never get her job done. She stated the paperwork was in the email and at 10-12 times we could see regarding the promise. Then I proceeded to phone and attempt to talk to a person’higher up’ from the series. I therefore talked with Howard that the Development Manager and even though he listened to our problems with stated workers and maintains disputes that he stated he’d look into it and then call me backagain. A week after I phoned him, as I had not heard anything and he said he had additional time. 4 business days after I called him again and obtained VM. Later that afternoon I got a phone in the Matt Adams who clarified Howard handed the compaint on to him. I attempted to tell my story (for the 5th time) of the reason I’m needing to submit a complaint and during my story he advised me to”just get to the stage”.  While describing the analogy of a couple of the workers and fail on the accounts he explained that he’d manage fire and it Sue Maiden this day. He was quite educated about his reply and stated that if that’s the outcome I am searching for, then he’d fire her now. As soon as I told Matt that his tone and answer wasn’t taking me seriously and squandering my time….he went to inform me that”I’ve got larger problems than the movement” and hung me up. My complaints concerning rude and unprofessional treatment in a worker proved essentially disregarded rather than addressed. I didn’t even have to go over the lost and damaged things of the argue, as Matt wrapped up on our telephone conversation. I’ve since placed a call to the CEO of the business, Elise Benedict, also (not amazed!) My calls haven’t been returned. If you’re seeking to move, I strongly recommend that you prevent this corporation. After reading reviews it seems like if the transfer goes well. . .then what’s nice. But in case you own any questions or disputes regarding your relocation, damaged items, missing things….they dip you around from person to person on your telephone. They can eliminate unprofessional customer support and do not understand how to deal with a easy customer criticism.  An easy, we’ll start looking to this and follow up farther could have sufficed. Some of our ruined things weren’t listed back on the last copies of our paperwork in the end of a very long day of proceeding….example: ruined patio umbrella cover/shredded and dropped the middle cap out of our terrace table….and that they won’t replace them since they were not written back on the list/contract. Although we’d reported it to the motorist and from telephone to the workplace that really moving day. This firm whined a number of our furniture, spoke to us quite unprofessionally on many events, dropped a peice of our furniture/ladder, scarcely returned our phone calls over a week and then finally to be wrapped up on now with a representative later he explained that I had difficulties!!!!!  It’s so wrong on so many levels and that I can not do anything about it but try to get out the word regarding our joke about an adventure with this organization and also to prevent them at any cost. They can’t be relied on to get the perfect thing. Think twice before employing them. And if you are reading this….make certain to pass this adventure together so that others won’t endure the strain, hindsight, frustration that we’ve.

Damaged furniture and refused to pay for damages

University Movers ruined a sofa we paid roughly $950 for. We paid a few hundred to have a specialist cleaner to remove the harm, but didn’t work so we registered a claim. University refused the claim, and they stated it was preexisting harm, which is completely untrue. We faced them with images of the sofa taken pre-move, revealing their was not any harm. The movers maintained they told my spouse of this harm, which is false too. The supervisor, Brock, was totally unresponsive. I phoned and left 3 voice mails over a two week interval. Just after a fourth forecast did he answer, and he had been totally unsympathetic to our circumstance. He had no issue whatsoever for client satisfaction. I explained to him that we’d multiple sources of evidence that could demonstrate that the sofa didn’t possess preexisting harm. Additionally, I explained we were outside $950 since we might need to replace the sofa. He showed no compassion at all, made no offer to compromise, didn’t even offer to attempt to have the sofa washed or repaired. According to our terrible experience together, this company seems to be not in any way dependable, and you ought to think hard and long before entrusting your possessions together.

    University in Indy was FANTASTIC!!!

My movement was so good I did not even consider writing an overview on the internet till I saw all of the negative and harmful posts out there about those firms. As a business owner myself, it’s a pity that you informs his friends to a fantastic experience, but would like to inform the entire world about his expertise. My encouragement for everybody is to do your homework and receive to precisely the exact same page along with the pros concerning the principles and regulations of the relocation. That is exactly what I did using University Transferring (North American Van Lines)at Indianapolis along with my transfer was wonderful. My rep was fantastic, got my burden and packaging true, and the amount just changed by 12 as it was completed. My movers were on time to your load and load. AND, the individual accountable for keeping me advised did her occupation. I seldom had questions since they were so along with it. University gave me a terrific experience and lots of bang for the dollar.
