In May 2018 we moved out of our home of 20 decades. We spent MANY hours arranging our possessions into different groups as to help alleviate the movement and relieve the job of unpacking on the opposite end. We tagged the groupings based on where they’d be sent and saved at our new residence. We highlighted against the movers; original that the estimator then the foreman and again the real packers, the significance of correctly packaging our delicate items which were equally priceless and very expressive. Assuming that Gentle Giant was a professional institution we thought that we had been in great hands. We might not have been more mistaken. Four regions of difficulty – we had been over charged, our things were sent with signs of water damage, boxes were packaged haphazardly and many upsetting, a number of our delicate valuables were broken in transit because of erroneous packaging. (details below if interested in additional information )
1) We had been overcharged. They tried to bill us for 2 trucks, when we used one and a longer distance transfer than it was actually. This was later recognized by the corporation.
2) Our boxes have been stored overnight from the vehicle and also scheduled to be sent the next day. The boxegs were sent revealing signs of water damage. When we introduced this to the groups attention that they confessed that there was a leak at the truck and several of the boxes were damaged. Weren’t going to bring this to our attention if we’d not noticed???
3) Our boxes were “mispacked” and mislabeled. Unfathomable because we spent so much time coordinating the groupings. Only a couple examples: our next floor guest toilet accessories were packaged together with things from our downstairs library items-very arbitrary! My grandma’s tea cup assortment out of our living area was packaged with most different boxes-found a single teacup with kitchen utensils(still haven’t discovered that the matching saucer), yet another teacup was packaged with my brothers bedroom knick knacks and the saucer was in with all the master tub paraphernalia and that I really could go on but I believe that you can find the picture. Matters weren’t packaged together and/ or at any type of order.
4) That is the most upsetting of all the previous careless mishaps- because we unpacked every box we discovered many bits broken which sadly included our irreplaceable llardros.
We did take out insurance, so although we had been angry we were convinced that Gentle Giant would make matters right. Boy were we innocent!
Gentle Giant was a nightmare to use.
They don’t return telephone calls in a timely manner or at all.
It’s taken weeks for us to receive any type of response.
In the end, after many emails and calls a couple of movers arrived back into our house to unpack the remainder of our delicate products. The 2 guys were really surprised by the bad quality of the packaging. They started and seen many broken bits.
They took the bits to be mended.
We received an email saying that our bits were in the repair shop and we’d be informed when the recovery was complete.
Recently (mid October) we obtained yet another email alerting us that our bits were hadn’t been sent to the restoration business and they’d love to talk to us to ask that we divide the total cost of these repairs! Incredible!
We’ll never recommend Gentle Giant or hope them again with a movement, and neither should you. Look elsewhere. There are lots of other moving companies that can be trusted to help reduce the strain of moving not add to it!
I labored with Gentle Giant to transfer my worldly products from PA to France. Gentle Giant did the packaging and loading of the container out of my house in PA and worked together with Rainier for its true container transport and another firm in France to perform the shipping. I worked together with Bob Lane in GG and he was great. He organized everything and understands that the process backward. He had been extremely helpful with all the paperwork, getting me a preliminary quotation, coordinating a questionnaire, describing the procedure,
Working together with my dates, and remaining connected during the
process. GG packed my products in the container quite effectively so
Nothing could change and also to minimize costs and space. When the products are around the container, the transport and delivery are actually from GG’s direct management as they’re managed by other parties, but Bob kept in touch during the process, allow me to understand where my products were and were totally fantastic. The GG team of 3 powerful men in Philly were also great, very professional, calm, courteous, powerful. They did struggle a bit with my baby-grand piano, but ultimately piled out it and were very receptive to any issues. Overall I had an excellent experience working with Bob and GG.
The sole poorer link in the procedure was that the shipping business in France which came with the container onto a truck without a ramp/ lift gate or mechanism to find anything off the container (that is actually high off the floor ) besides sliding/dropping off everything the rear end that was rather worrying, along with the team seemed to be in a tearing rush but most matters survived this!
